94 geo tracker starting problem
ok pass year we put in about 2 or 3 starters and it still does the same thing most of the time we have to go under the truck and jump the starter with a putty knife than it starts up. everybuddy says it still something wrong with the starter but im not sure what it is. the other starter use to click like 10 times than start right up like normal. but this starter started to make this noise and i dont know what it is… sometimes it starts up and sometimes it just does that and not start up till we go under the truck and start it from there… hopefully someone knows the problem. ty:)

sounds like a battery like its turning over slow but your explination soinds like possably a silinoid have u tried jumping it see if it starts better?
sorry i didn’t get back fast but we got it fixed we tried another starter which we ordered off eBay and it worked but it still clicks when you first start it up but after 3 to 5 try’s it starts up.
but if we wiggle the gear shift it starts up sooner so we thinking it might be the PARK neutral switch.
but atleast it starts up now instead of that awful grinding:)
Sounds like the solenoid. When you run into starting problems with anything. First make sure your battery terminals are clean. little bit of grease will stop them from corroding. Make sure it has a good solid ground. Take the Solenoid off and see why its not pushing out.
keep all the connections at the starter clean little bit of grease is good here too. it does not conduct electricity.
and of course make sure the battery is putting out the proper amperage. Should hold 1/3-1/2 its rated amps for 15 seconds and not drop below 9.6 volts approx. Pay no attention to those dumb little indicators on low maintance ones
when you put the new starters on did you shim the starters?
the guy that put it in said you cant put a shim on when we asked him before he put it on.
i even knew that it prob lee needed a shim on it but he did int want to listen…
im gonna take it back off and put a shim on it when it gets aliitle warmer out:)
thanks:)
