Suzuki’s response to the European demand for a Grand Vitara with more urban style. This model will start reaching European dealers in the early summer. Since 1988, that was when the first-generation Vitara was unveiled, Suzuki has consistently used a ladder frame and offered a 4×4 lock mode — key requirements for genuine 4×4 capability. At the same time, we’ve steadily improved on-road performance amid the growing popularity of crossovers. The current, third-generation Grand Vitara has a sleek, edgy exterior and interior design. The bottom line is that it’s almost impossible to follow all the badge changes over time and basically, whether we’re talking about:

an Escudo, a Jimny, a Samurai, Sidekick, Vitara, Grand Vitara or Tracker, they’re pretty much identical across badges, at least up until 2004 when the trackers lost the convertible model.

Since I’m now including some videos of the breed, don’t be surprised to see some of the Suzuki variants. The important thing isn’t the badge, but the fum mini-SUV behind it!

The Beginning

To make a long story short, my first look at one of these little beasties was in Fuerteventura wheb I rented a Suzuki Jimny. It was a blast, but vacation ended and I quickly forgot about it.

Fast forward a few years and I decided that I wanted a summer fun car and started out looking for a sports car. One thing led to another, and I remembered the Jimny. That`s when I forgot about a sports car, started looking for a Jimny. At first I wondered if we had these things in Canada and to my surprise found out we had the ChevyTracker and Geo Trackers, as well as the Suzuki variants (mainly the Sidekick and the Vitara).

That was it! A bit of searching and I wound up with the 2003 Chevy Tracker that you see up above on the right. Not quite a sports car right?

But it`s great and, I get to use it in the Canadian winters. Now, that`s cool.
