Turn off headlights on a 2001 Chevy Tracker?
I have a 2001 Chevy Tracker, and the headlights stay on (while driving) during the day. The only way to turn them off I have found is to push the parking brake up to the first notch.
However, I do not want to ruin the parking brake, and sometimes I want the headlights off during night time, when I am talking to someone outside, and the headlights are shining into someones house.
Is there anyway to override the manufacture and turn the headlights off?
Thanks.

This is a safety feature to newer GM vehicles. You have to totally rewire the vehicle to eliminate that feature. Customer’s come in here all the time and want us to disable it, but we can’t legally do it.
The parking brake trick is the only way I know of to over ride the daytime running lights.
What you can do is connect up some wires from the DRL relay and connect them to a switch that you can mount someplace on the dash or under the dash.Means a bit of work but then you’ve had control over the DRL system.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you had a diagram of the BCM and DRL circuit you could run the switch off the BCM pin that gives power to the DRL relay and then all the wiring could be just running behind the dash from the BCM to the extra led high amp extra toggle switch.Note some auto parts stores offer free diagram or schematic print outs but be sure you buy the right auto wire and thickness or gage of wire too. Just to be clear you can buy toggle switches that are low load rated or low amp rated and you buy buy ones that are much higher rated that are quite suitable for what you seek , plus some switches have led lights in them that way you’ll know when the switch is on etc too.
