what is the hook for on the back of my chevy tracker?
you see, there is a hook-like thing on my chevy tracker on the back end of it, we think its a tow hook to like tow something out of a ditch, because it can’t be a hitch or you would be towing (say an RV) sideways.

It can be used to attach a towing strap but that is not its intended purpose. It is a tie down anchor. Most vehicles which are exported have factory installed tie down anchors. Some manufacturers of exported vehicles install 4 tie down anchors, one on each corner, and others install only 2 tie down anchors, one on one side of the front and the other on the opposite side of the rear. If it only has one on the rear, then go look at the opposite side of the front and you will find another one. Inverted Y type tie downs is what most shippers prefer because that makes the tie down less labor intensive, hence the need for only 2 tie down anchors, one front and one rear.
It is a recovery point. If you are stuck and need to be winched out from the back, they will attach to that loop to pull you out.
it for pulling a stuck car .yours or somebody else, it is were you will hook the tow strap
Its for towing a broken down car. You tie a strong rope between both vehicles using the towbars on each, getting it back home or to a garage without having to call for a pick-up.
Hope this helps
its a recovery hook for dummies that think their toy is a real vehicle
